Kaspersky Internet Security stood up to an independent 6 month test and took 1st place

Kaspersky Internet Security was rated as the best protection solution following an endurance test carried out from September 2013 to February 2015 by the experts of the independent laboratory AV-Test. Kaspersky Lab’s product achieved top scores for malware detection while maintaining a lower system load than any other tested product.

AV-TEST’s endurance test is an extended study in which different internet security suites are tested over three two-month periods on three different operating systems — Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. This testing method helps to find the best solution by analyzing its effectiveness on a long-term basis, unlike traditional tests that can only demonstrate the capabilities of the protection at a given moment in time.

The experts evaluated 24 security suites from different vendors in three categories. The first category, Protection, tested the combined ability to detect a reference set of malware and to identify security suite on system performance and measures delays in the installation or execution of programs, website responses and data downloads. The last category, Usability, assesses the correct identification of legitimate programs and websites.

Kaspersky Internet Security suite boasted the best results over the six months of testing and was able to score 17.8 of a maximum possible total of 18 points. It got 6.0 out of 6.0 points in Usability and Protection categories, detecting 100 % of 60,000 known pieces of malware and identifying all of about 400 samples of zero-day malware in a real-world test conducted by visiting recently infected websites and opening suspicious e-mail attachments. Furthermore, Kaspersky Internet Security also got 5.8 out of new pieces of previously unknown malware. The second one, System Load, demonstrates impact of the 6 in System Load, beating its nearest rival by 0.3 points.

“Users of modern security suites don’t want to be disturbed either by viruses or by antiviruses. The solution’s ability to avoid excessive drain on system resources and avoid false positives is just as important as its primary function of detecting and neutralizing malware. Kaspersky Internet Security’s impressive results in this test reflect the optimal comfort level our customers enjoy in addition to unquestionable security for their systems,” commented Oleg Ishanov, Director Anti-Malware Research, Kaspersky Lab.

Kaspersky lab’s products constantly show high results in AV-TEST’s endurance tests. In their previous similar long-term research that was carried from January to June 2013 Kaspersky Internet Security achieved a creditable second place. Kaspersky Lab’s R&D experts constantly work on improving product’s usability and optimizing the use of system resources, helping Kaspersky Internet Security to go one better this year.

Kaspersky Internet Security on top in ‘Real-World’ Protection test

Kaspersky Lab’s flagship security solution for home users, Kaspersky Internet Security 2015, was recognized as the best of the products compared in the Whole Product Dynamic “Real-World” Protection Test conducted by AV-Comparatives, an independent research lab, from August to November 2013. The lab’s experts analyzed how effectively popular security products protect against real-world threats faced by home users.

The testing procedure allowed security solutions to use any techniques to prevent the test computer’s infection with malware – from blocking malicious links clicked by the user to detecting and removing malware already present on the device. However, security solutions had to operate with minimal input from PC users. This is because users are sometimes not sure what to do with suspicious programs detected by security solutions and might make poor decisions.

AV-Comparatives experts tested a total of 22 security solutions from different vendors. Each product was subjected to 1,821 test cases. Kaspersky Internet Security successfully blocked 1,820 threats, demonstrating 99.9% effectiveness over the four-month testing series – the best result among all products tested. The Kaspersky Lab product prevented the systems from being infected in all cases, only prompting the user to make a decision in one instance.

Several hundred legitimate sites and apps were also used during testing to check whether the products generated false positives. If the security solutions blocked one of these sites or files from opening, they received a penalty. Kaspersky Internet Security was one of just five products that did not generate a single false positive.

The outstanding results produced by Kaspersky Internet Security earned the product an Advanced+ rating from AV-Comparatives.

“For ordinary users it’s not that important at exactly which stage a security solution manages to block malware – the main thing is that it prevents their computers from being infected. Because the testing by AV-Comparatives assesses a product’s combined capabilities, the results present home users with a much more practical evaluation than other tests that only assess individual security components,” commented Oleg Ishanov, Director Anti-Malware Research, Kaspersky Lab.

Testing was carried out on a 64-bit version of Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 with all the updates that were available as of August 2013. The latest versions of popular applications such as Adobe Flash Player, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Apple QuickTime, Mozilla Firefox, and Oracle Java were also installed on the test computers.

Testing was conducted by AV-Comparatives in conjunction with specialists from the University of Innsbruck. More information about the Whole Product Dynamic “Real-World” Protection Test is available on the test lab’s site.

Micros selected as the most complete hotel software

Market Research - AHGZ has singled out the nine best hospitality industry suppliers for 2013. For the first time, there are certificates for the winners in the individual categories.

The best hospitality industry suppliers for 2013 were selected by the hospitality industry customers and also AHGZ readers. “Allgemeine Hotel und Gastronomie Zeitung” (the newspaper General Hotel and Gastronomy) awarded its best brand certificates for the third time. In 2013, the focus was on: Bread and bakery items, convenience, ice cream, hotel bath/WC, hotel software, coffee, coffee machines, dish washing equipment and tea.

The market research company Business Target Group (BTG), commissioned by AHGZ, surveyed people in the gastronomy and hotel business on the services of the suppliers in these nine industries. Here it was a question of the categories quality, product performance, image and service performance. Winners were selected in the individual categories for the first time.

Micros is the overall winner for hotel software. The AHGZ study was carried out on a random sample. In the period from May to August 2013, the market researchers of BTG surveyed at least 400 representatives from the gastronomy and/or hotel industries depending on the product group. Computer-supported phone interviews were conducted with the users or people familiar with the respective products and suppliers. They were exclusively owners, managers or head buyers.
